I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACTIVELY RESEARCHING THIS
NAME BUT I WILL UPDATE CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS AND ANSWER QUERIES
Most of the information on the U.S.A.
Leverton/Leaverton family has been donated. I would like to thank the many
people, too numerous to mention, who have contributed to my research over the
past 35 years. Further information has been gathered from wills and deeds: the
International Genealogical Index (IGI): census returns: birth, death and
marriage indexes: newspapers, books and directories: and more recently the
internet.
I know there are mistakes in this work,
because as each contact has researched their individual lines, many have come
to different conclusions about their ancestors. I have generally gone with the
majority. Almost everyone traces their
line back to one of three people, either JOHN (b.C1730), ISAAC (b.C1720) or
THOMAS (b.C1730). There is another branch spelt LEVENTON originating from JOHN
(b.C1794). As these four all originate from a small area of Maryland, it is
most probable that they are related.
There were a lot of later immigrants with
the Leverton name, mainly from the UK, Russia, Poland and Sweden. The UK ones can be found in the UK trees. I have not researched the others. Some of the recent unconnected people may
originate from some of these later immigrants.
I have not yet managed to connect this
branch to any of my 5 UK trees, and probably never will. My best guess is that
they came from Cornwall as I have several families with similar names to early
US Levertons "disappearing" from Cornwall around early 1700's. (MY BEST GUESS)
DNA testing may in the future link this
branch to one of the five UK families, but it will need people willing to take
the tests.

THE
LEVERTON/LEAVERTON NAME WAS OFTEN TRANSPOSED AND SPELLINGS VARIED FROM BIRTH TO
MARRIAGE TO DEATH, AND FROM CENSUS TO CENSUS.
IF YOU CANNOT FIND THE NAME YOU ARE LOOKING FOR UNDER LEVERTON, TRY
LEAVERTON, AND VICE VERSA.
As I only
research people with the LEVERTON surname, I am not interested in wives prior
to marriage, or females after marriage.
