DEVONSHIRE LEVERTON TREE D2

   All the Devon LEVERTONS originate from LIVATON in South Tawton Parish near Okehampton. The family on this tree stayed in South Tawton until the middle of the 16th century before migrating, first 1 branch west to Cornwall, then one north to North Tawton, Sampford Courtenay and then south to South Devon. The family in Tree D1 migrated northwards before records began, first to Bondleigh, Iddeslegh and then later to Dolton.

   Up until the 17th century most of the two Devon trees are part fact and part educated guesswork due to three factors:

1)  The destruction of all the Devon wills, and most of the Cornish LEVERTON wills in the wartime blitz on Exeter

2)  The lack of early registers in the parishes that the LEVERTON families lived, particularly in Cornwall

3)  The duplication of Christian names in the same areas at the same time

   However, as all the early LEVERTONS lived within a ten mile radius of each other, it would seem most likely that they are all related somehow, if not as I have them. Both Devon trees are now scattered throughout this country, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

   I have another Tree D0 which comprises of people I have so far been unable to fit into the 2 main Devon trees.
